Wiig Not Eager to Step into Palin’s Shoes

I couldn’t possibly imagine any of the current players on SNL as Sarah Palin, after Tina Fey’s insanely great performances last fall leading up to the US Presidential Election.

A few names have been tossed around by Fey as to who her successor will be, which includes Kristen Wiig. But Wiig doesn’t want the role.

She spoke with Kevin Williamson of Sun Media at this year’s Sundance Film Fest, and commented:

“I could never do Sarah Palin after Tina Fey did. It would be so hard … I think she was pretty perfect on that one and America knew it even before she did it. What was so cool was her leaving SNL to do this really successful show (30 Rock) and then coming back to do this one thing, which turned out to be the biggest thing ever. She’s so good at it. I hope I never have to do it. Those are some shoes to fill.”

I’m relieved Wiig isn’t contemplating this role. I can barely tolerate her the majority of the time on SNL, although sometimes she surprises me. She shouldn’t bother with Palin, and stick to Kathie Lee Gifford, one of the few impersonations of hers that I don’t mind. At the same time, I can’t picture ANY of the current female players on SNL taking on the role of Palin. Perhaps they should just reserve it for the shows when Tina Fey returns as host.

Can you picture any of the current SNL players in the role of Sarah Palin?
